His expertise lies in human rights, civil society, and the rule of law, focusing on civic activism against authoritarian regimes, civil rights, and the rule of law reform in the post-soviet context.<\/span> <\/span>
After earning his law degree at Tbilisi State University, Mr. Meladze furthered his legal education with a year-long visiting scholarship at Columbia University Law School. Currently, he is pursuing a PhD in political science, focusing on interdisciplinary research into the rule of law reforms in Georgia. He has taught at various universities in Tbilisi, Georgia, and holds an Associate Professorship of Public Law at Ilia State University, School of Law. Mr. Meladze\u2019s recent academic endeavors include studies focusing on jury trial reform in Georgia, legal education reform, and legal culture. His research has been widely published in Georgia, Europe, and the United States by academic institutions as well as by media and think \u2013 tanks such as The Hill, EURACTIV, Minds of the Movement \u2013 ICNC etc.<\/span>
Giorgi Meladze is the Director of the Center for Constitutional Research at Ilia State University. Previously, he served as executive director of the Liberty Institute (a non-profit organization), and a member of the Advisory Committee of the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities at the Council of Europe, and he is an Aspen Fellow, underscoring his leadership and dedication to advancing legal education and human rights.<\/span> <\/span>
His commitment to civic activism is exemplified by his involvement in the KMARA movement, a civic youth movement, that challenged President Shevardnadze\u2019s corrupt rule in the early 2000s. He is also one of the organizers of the \u10ef\u10d8\u10e3\u10e2\u10d8\/GEUT (\u201cStubborn Resistance\u201d) movement in Georgia. He has extensive experience training grassroots groups and human rights activists locally and globally.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
