Somaya Faruqi
Somaya Faruqi, born in 2002 in Herat, Afghanistan, is an activist, engineering student, and former captain of the Afghan Girls Robotics Team, the "Afghan Dreamers." Recognized as a BBC 100 Women honoree, Forbes Asia's 30 Under 30, UNICEF Teen Activist, and Vogue 21 Under 21, she also became the 2023 Education Cannot Wait Global Champion.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, she led her team in creating a low-cost ventilator. In 2023, she launched the #TheAfghanGirlsVoices campaign to amplify Afghan girls’ stories. Now pursuing her education at Sacramento State University, Somaya continues to empower women and girls in engineering and advocate for their right to education.
